Long time no see, I guess. I’ve been out of it for some days now. Nothing too spectacular: no drug or alcohol binges or degenerate ordeals. I have just stayed in my apartment listening to the radio a whole lot and sporadically reading some books I ordered. Funny thing is I should be working on some stuff for Osprey TV. I’m one of the stations Senior Producers, you know; It’s my job to come up with shit on a daily basis. I’m pretty good when it comes to come up with ideas. In fact, I’m proud of my “come up with ideas” talent. Unluckily, that talent is complemented with the “come up with totally non-pragmatic ideas” talent. My last idea for the station, a 15 minute documentary like show called the Cracks, met a barrage of ridicule from the rest of the staff. Not only is the Cracks (if you were wondering, the t in “the” is lowercased) totally out of the small stations capabilities, it also seems incredibly unappealing to our core audience in UNF’s dorms. I admit, the Cracks was a pretty hard idea to sell. It covered esoteric and bizarre topics that ranged from sexual zombies to satanism in metal music. It is totally unsalable in today’s conservative market. But who can blame me for trying? When was the last time you’ve explored the topic of sex zombies? It is terra incognita in a world were everything has been done or talked about. Doesn’t that sort of individuality give you an edge in the monotonous market place of ideas? One of Osprey TV’s flaws is it’s unwillingness to explore creativity. We will never attempt something that doesn’t already work for someone else. Osprey TV’s potential lies in it’s independence: we are not regulated by the FCC and UNF’s Student Government (who grants the station it’s budget) doesn’t really care about it. We are free to explore whatever we want. We are only policed by ourselves. How many people enjoy that creative freedom? Yet, we never act out our independence. The station will never outgrow its current status as a glorified AV Club because it doesn’t take advantage of its one strength. We are currently working on a Youtube show. The main idea is to showcase Youtube videos made by UNF students. I’ve been assigned to create a short video to jump start the show. It has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in Osprey TV. The source of my desire to create lies on my interests about different stuff. For example: my last short story- Love the Baby- spawned from my love of Splatterpunk as well as an interest in the way man deals with loneliness. I find user made Youtube videos retarded. They are not funny or clever or amusing; they are just stupid. I don’t know how to be stupid… at least not intentionally. I have a couple of ideas floating around my head: a Slayer music video and an animation short titled Scrotumhead. Neither of them are funny or clever or amusing. As far as I’m concerned they are work that has to be finished by Thursday. About the Cracks, I’m planning to develop it as a radio show in Osprey Radio. :)
