The drive from Atlanta to Waycross is approximately 4 and a half hours. My mother and I spent most of this week visiting my brother, who goes to Emory University. I wrote my first blog post sitting in my brothers couch. There’s not much to do at my brother’s; the internet connection sucks ass and he spends most of his day locked up in his room studying for a “determine the rest of your life” exam he’s taking in a few weeks. This boredom led me to think about stuff and write the list of goals I blogged yesterday. On our way back I came up with two more things I need to do this year.
8- Watching a horror movie at a Drive In Theater Have you ever seen Monster Squad? There’s a scene where the main character, a boy of about 11 years of age, and his dad sat on his roof watching an old Universal Monsters movie playing in a nearby Drive In. I remember thinking that the Drive In was the perfect way to watch a scary movie. Like the huge screen and the confined space in the car would magnify the horror. I know of at least a couple of Drive Ins that are a car drive away. I should really take up this opportunity to fulfill that childhood dream. I hope it’s as cool as I imagined all those years ago.
9- Go to the gun range: I’m really curious as to what it’s like to fire a gun. Nothing crazy, just shooting a target at a range to get it all out of my system.
My friend Juan told me that his temporarily canceling the Dark Heresy game he was going to kick off this weekend because two of the three players just bailed out on him. This really sucks. Being a big Warhammer 40k fan I was really pumped up with the idea of participating in a DH game. Juan’s latent autism makes his games quite unique from a storytelling point of view.I was going to play a Cleric, a priest of the Imperium of Man, named Severos (all DH characters have crappy names). Severos is a fat, balding man whose defining characteristic is his undying faith to the God-Emperor. He smiles all the time, showing that he misses his two front teeth. He is a wandering priest. He spends all of his time amongst the scum of society trying to bring back the fallen to the good graces of the God-Emperor. He is a man that throws himself into suicidal danger all the time because he truly believes that the God-Emperor will protect him. The character was born some weeks ago during a conversation with my ex-roommate. He used to go out late at night and hang around our apartment complex’s parking lot. After reminding him about a couple of robberies that had occurred in the neighborhood, I told him that I thought he was courting danger when ever he went out during the wee hours. “Tony,” he said, ” I do it without the least amount of fear, because I know Jesus is protecting me at all times.” I think a character that uses that same logic will be very interesting to play in an adventure roleplaying game. I hope to roleplay Severos one of this days. Still keeping it Gonzo (no proof-reading), Tony
